Renovators (formerly General Retrofit) – Registration Process

Ready to Get Started?

This section outlines the HPCN registration process for the Renovators sector (renamed from General Retrofit). This information is provided to help you decide if HPCN registration is right for you.

Who should join the Renovators sector?

This sector is for renovators and general contractors who deliver retrofit projects that affect the building envelope, airtightness, windows and doors, insulation, ventilation, and heating systems in existing homes.

Whether you coordinate specialized trade experts or employ in-house teams, you are responsible for delivering quality outcomes for homeowners and following industry best practices.

We are seeking professionals who want to deepen their knowledge of how the home functions as an interconnected system, and play a key role in improving home comfort, durability, occupant health, and energy efficiency in the residential retrofit market.

By joining HPCN, you will gain:

  • Access to subsidized building science training and practical resources
  • Expanded knowledge of how different retrofit measures interact within a home
  • Opportunities to connect with retrofit professionals across the province
  • Up-to-date knowledge of events, rebate programs, and market trends

Please note there is currently no rebate program linked to the Renovators sector.

The HPCN is an upskilling initiative and is not designed to serve as the first point of contact for newcomers to the residential retrofit industry. If you are looking to start work in this sector, and have never completed this type of work before, we recommend you contact an industry association, such as the Canadian Home Builders Association of BC, for further support.

*Home performance is determined by the energy efficiency, comfort, health, safety, and durability of a home. Retrofitting with a whole-home, or house-as-a-system approach, is key to improving home performance.
